SaharaReporters has exclusively learned that the publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, and Chairman of Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigerian (NPAN), Nduka Obaigbena, was on June 26 invited to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what our source at the agency described as alleged money laundering. A copy of the invitation letter obtained by SaharaReporters shows that Mr. Obaigbena was scheduled to report at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on July 7.

It is unclear if Mr. Obaigbena honored the invitation. He is currently visiting the United States. The kernel of the infraction remains unclear but sources disclosed that it may be connected with suspicious transactions running into several millions of dollars.
